Bloom & Doom

Tired of life’s frustrations and finding myself in situations I find overwhelming and uncomfortable, you will often hear me swear or use phrases that appear morose. I have been finding that merely making my art has not been communicating my feelings sufficiently. It has always been my sanctuary, my outlet and yet I’ve found recently that my voice just isn’t coming through enough, in life as well as Art. So I decided to just say it how it is, to put down the things going through my head in words. As the visually pleasing images I make provide the creative outlet, the words communicate my thoughts and feelings rather more literally.

The first in the Bloom and Doom series.
The juxtaposition of what’s often seen as aggressive, expletive language with a traditionally delicate and cheerful floral motif creates a striking and humorous contrast. I imagine it said in the voice of Alan Carr. This piece channels frustration and rebellion in a visually joyful and sarcastic way.
This is a bold and expressive mixed-media collage on canvas. The background is a vivid mustard yellow, which creates a vibrant contrast with the floral arrangement in the center. The flowers are created with a collage technique, giving them a layered and textured look.
Bright pinky red Camellias sit amongst periwinkle flowers in purples and blues.

I Just Want To Make Art

Sometimes the only thing that makes sense is that inner pull to make Art, to use some colour, to feel the paper, to create shapes and to see the results so satisfyingly quickly. The words are a reminder and a declaration, ’I just want to make art’!

I Don’t Have All The Answers

This piece speaks of feeling lost in so many parts of life and yet somehow having to deal with it.
Each flower arranged, held in its place and sitting comfortably.
The soft pastel yellow background and white peony, contrasts with the bold greens and blues of the foliage, with hints of tropical leaves.
White Peony, and cobalt blue Lobelia and Anemones, sit within an arrangement of decorative vases creating a peaceful and contemporary flower arrangement. Somewhat jarring against the words of this piece.
